Getting Back in The Saddle
After taking a year off from endurance for my horse to recover from an injury, I am finally getting back in the saddle. Our first endurance race will be February 14, 2015 in Somerville, TX. The race is called the Somerville State Park Shuffle. Sierra and I will be competing in the 25 mile ride, and hope to get through the race with all A's on our vet check card.
As far as conditioning for the race, we will be starting out at 5 miles per day just to get back into the swing of training. As the season progresses we plan on doing about 20-30 miles per week depending on time constraints! So far, there are 7 rides on the calendar for this year and I look forward to competing in each one! Sierra is my main endurance horse, a 12 year old chestnut quarter horse. This year I have another horse that comes of age to enter rides, Lily, a 4 year old bay quarter horse. Lily will be competing in 5 rides this season and I look forward to seeing how she does in competition.
As always, feel free to email me with any questions you have about this incredible sport, and I will get back with you as quickly as possible!
Happy Trails!
